Participants will learn how to use their energy to move the Chinese brush. Your painting will achieve movement of life, energetic strokes, and likeness of the object. The end result is a well balanced composition. The instructor shows how to use Chinese ink, pigment and water color paper properly. The workshops cover the following topics:


  1. Couleur chinois
    Common pigments and traditional colors include burnt sienna, indigo, gamboge yellow, vermilion, emerald green, ceruse, cobalt blue, and more.

    Learn to use and choose, Ink stick and Ink Stone
    Learn to use and choose the proper brush for painting different objects. Some common brush types include soft hair brush, hard hair brush, flat brush, mixed hair brushes, worn out brush, sharp brushes.

    Learn how to choose proper Chinese paper for artwork. Popular art papers include Raw Suen paper, Sized Suen paper, Ma-Chih, Pei-Chih.

    Learn how to use traditional Chinese writing techniques to do water color painting.

    Apply the appropriate amount of Chinese color with water to make layers on paper.

Instead of using only the brush point to draw, you also learn how to place the brush flat on paper to acheive special effect.
