West Island Chinese Painting Workshop, Watercolor Painting Class
Participants will learn how to use their energy to move the Chinese brush. Your painting will achieve movement of life, energetic strokes, and likeness of the object. The end result is a well balanced composition. The instructor shows how to use Chinese ink, pigment and water color paper properly. The workshops cover the following topics:

Chinese Color
Common pigments and traditional colors include burnt sienna, indigo, gamboge yellow, vermilion, emerald green, ceruse, cobalt blue, and more.

Chinese Brushes, Ink stick and Ink Stone
Learn to use and choose the proper brush for painting different objects. Some common brush types include soft hair brush, hard hair brush, flat brush, mixed hair brushes, worn out brush, sharp brushes.

Chinese Art Paper
Learn how to choose proper Chinese paper for artwork. Popular art papers include Raw Suen paper, Sized Suen paper, Ma-Chih, Pei-Chih. -
Traditional Brush Strokes
Learn how to use traditional Chinese writing techniques in water color painting. Master the brush to draw the proper sizes; create energetic and elegant movement.

Color Merging Techniques
Apply the appropriate amount of Chinese color with water to make layers on paper. -
Water Application Techniques
How to apply water on the paper plays a very important role in order to create an outstanding artwork. -
Chinese Ink Shading
Skillful distribution of the Chinese ink produces many different shades, such as focal, dense, heavy, light and clear. Shades give three dimentions to the objects. -
Painting Composition
Learn to create a stunning painting by using the Yin and Yang principle. This principle is based on shapes and voids; heavy and light; smoothness and cragginess; straight and curve, congeniality and variation.
