Review after Ngan Siu-Mui's Solo Exhibition, Singapore [by Mai He1]
"Ngan Siu Mui's talent is very high, with a grand style of an artist master. From her paintings,
poems and calligraphy with elegant and powerful brush movements, Ngan Siu Mui is indeed
a rare female painter in modern times. Whether in drawing animals or flowers, she has
certain rules and rhythms. She brings out the beautiful style of Lingnan school. Her description
is incisive and vivid, majestic and just precisely well."
"Ngan Siu Mui is a special Lingnan school painter. In addition to the rich content of Chinese ink painting,
she also has seal carving, poetry and calligraphy. This is a rare phenomenon! The cranes, goldfish,
tigers, peacocks, leaves, flowers and birds, landscapes, and bamboo shoots seen in the exhibition,
together with the support of a wide range of poems, books, seal carving, showing variety and
complement each other, setting off a wonderful and elegant realm. Ho Kwok-ho, President of
the Singapore Arts Association, praised:
Ngan Siu Mui is a female historian with high talents and such a refined style,
which is rare in Hong Kong and Kowloon."
"In my opinion, Ngan Siu Mui is an artist who is willing to spend time in pondering new artistic concepts.
Her brush strokes are bold and majestic, while her colors are harmonious and multifarious,
perfectly expressive from her heart, thereby showing a high degree of artistic talent.
She has really brought into full play the true qualities of Lingnan School’s dignified spirit
which are really admirable. On the other hand, judging from the progress of Ngan Siu Mui’s artistic creation,
she is a dedicated artist which can be seen from her works. Although she paints traditional Chinese paintings,
her coloring is applied dextrously. Her style is unpretentious and solid while the color tone is fresh,
never erratic, yet powerfully and purely expressing the essence of the artist's personality."
